Why should children's scald scars be repaired as soon as possible?
Many of the patients who came to our hospital to treat scald scars were children or scars caused by scalds in childhood. Children's self-protection awareness is low. In many cases, if the parents don't pay attention, children will be easily burned during play, and many burns will have a large area, and large scars will be formed later.
Why should children's burn scars be repaired as soon as possible?
1 Change in appearance
Skin scar is an inevitable result of tissue repair when the damage reaches the dermis and the following tissues. Children are in the stage of growth and development, and their cell vitality and nutrient supply are much greater than those of adults. Therefore, scars are more prone to hyperplasia after burns, which will affect the appearance of the skin. If it occurs on the face, it will easily lead to changes in facial features.
2 Activity function decreased
The longer the scar is formed, it will not only proliferate, thicken and harden, but also cause scar contracture. When the scald area occurs at the joint, long-term braking and stretching contracture will cause joint dysfunction, which will affect children's eating, Daily life such as dressing and walking.
3 Restricted development
Children are in the golden period of growth and development. If the burned area is large, they are in physical activities, joints, etc., it will have a certain impact on the growth and development of children. In the long term, it will lead to limited limb development.
4 Physical discomfort
Scars will be itchy during hyperplasia, which will make children uncomfortable for a long time. At the same time, due to the destruction of skin sweat glands, the scar area will lose its ability to sweat, especially in the hot summer, children will feel uncomfortable.
5 Mental problems
Children's psychology is relatively sensitive. When there are scars on the body, whether it is someone else's strange vision or the laughter of the children's friends, it is easy for children to appear anxious and inferiority.
Three common types of scald scars
1 Superficial scar
Superficial Ⅱ ° scald usually hurts the epidermis or superficial dermis, and most of them appear as superficial scars. The symptoms are rough surface, local pigmentation or loss of pigmentation.
2 hyperplastic scar
Deep Ⅱ ° scald usually hurts the deep layer of the dermis. Most scald scars will start to grow after 3-4 months. The symptoms are higher than the surrounding normal skin, local thickening and hardening, and the surface is red, flush or purple. The texture is hard and tough, with burning and itching sensations.
3 Contractive scar
When the wound is healed, the adjacent muscle tissue adheres to contracture together, which mostly occurs on the flexion side of the joint, and is also found in the active part of the neck.
Early prevention of scald scars
Deep scald large area scars, generally cannot be repaired immediately, but preventive intervention must be carried out early after the scald, in order to minimize or avoid the occurrence of scars to the greatest extent. Preventive treatment methods after wound healing include:
① Elastic compression: continuous healing of the burn-healed area where scars may occur, continuous compression by elastic fabrics, resulting in ischemia and hypoxia of fibrocytes, reducing collagen fibers and preventing scar formation. The scar hyperplasia period is more than half a year, and the compression period must persist for more than 6 months.
②External medicine: After the wound is healed, the healing wound can be coated with silicone gel-like drugs for inhibiting scar hyperplasia, and silicone gel accessories (silicone patch, etc.) are used in combination. Topical drugs can inhibit scar hyperplasia, relieve itching, and soften scars.
③Fixed splint: the use of thermoplastic splint fixation can resist joint contracture, brace traction to maintain joint mobility. The plastic splint has the characteristics of softening by heating and can be shaped at will, and plays a good role in braking and resisting contracture.
Repair scald scars
The above are all auxiliary methods. In view of the severity of the scald and the location of the scald, the degree of scar hyperplasia, contracture deformity, and dysfunction are also various. Therefore, it is impossible to repair all the problems with a single treatment method for repairing the scar Need to formulate comprehensive treatment methods in order to obtain better repair results.
